Experience the transformative moment as Monticello’s West Portico transforms into an outdoor courtroom, where numerous individuals take the Oath of Citizenship to become proud Americans. This year, James E. Ryan, President of the University of Virginia, is the guest speaker for the new citizens. The ceremony will also feature a splendid presentation of the colors by Boy Scouts of America Troop 75 and captivating musical performances by the Charlottesville Band, Charlottesville Opera, Old Line Fife and Drum Corps, and The Oratorio Society of Virginia. Following the ceremony, revel in root beer floats and children’s activities on the West Lawn. Celebrate Independence Day in Greene County like never before! The holiday fun kicks off with a lively parade down Main Street in Stanardsville at 9 AM on Tuesday, July 4th. Later in the evening, from 3 to 10 PM, head to Morris Field in Ruckersville—across Route 33 from Ruckersville Elementary School—for an incredible star-spangled extravaganza. The gates open at 3 PM, so plan accordingly and carpool if possible, as parking is limited. Get ready to groove to the sounds of the Southern Sky, our beloved local band, followed by a sensational performance by country music star Mark Wills. The night will culminate with the breathtaking Capitol Sheds Fireworks Show, lighting up the Stanardsville sky with a dazzling display of colors and patterns.
